  1. If you are willing to share, what has been your biggest marketing mistake and how do you learn from it?

  2. Right when i started out I signed up to promote an affiliate ( a guy who is now big in the real estate space). I had a large list that, well, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly warm but was in the same space.

I installed hosted email software on my own server and a series of 7 emails to 35,000 people… well… #1 I wasn’t setup for that volume so the emails took forever with ‘last minute’ notices reaching people DAYS late and #2 as I mentioned my list wasn’t , um, warm… so I had a ton of spam complaints, I torched my deliverability to the point where recovery has taken forever.

So, lesson? 1. Never, never, never, never spam, or do anything that even smells like it. 2. Don’t try and do everything yourself SAAS with a proven track record is the way to go for almost anything you need and definitely use one for email.

  3. Great lesson! We can learn a lot from mistakes or what we feel are failures. They are not failures at all instead they are valuables lessons that are needed for progress.

(Regarding the quick tip) The funny thing is I met the founder of tweet adder while fishing off a pier on Carolina Beach. This is a smaller world than we think…

  4. Great. Getting too spread out doing too many projects is a big mistake. 10 websites, 10 email marketing campaigns, etc. Thanks for the post.
